The Irish Lottery replaced the IRISH HOSPITAL SWEEPSTAKES in 1988 and has become one of the most popular lottos in Europe. With only 45 numbers to choose from, it's significantly easier to win the jackpot in the Irish lotto compared with most other major national lotto games. The size of the Jackpot is determined by the number of people who enter in each draw, but there is a guaranteed minimum of €1.35 million (approximately $1.5 million USD) and rollovers regularly take the jackpot prize pool to 3, 4 and up to a record 9.5 million euros.

How to play the Irish Lottery
The Irish Lotto is a 6 out of 45 game. Players must pick 6 numbers and match them with the 6 lottery balls that come out in the lottery draw. The jackpot is won by matching those six numbers.

If the jackpot is not won, it will rollover to the next draw. There are six prize categories and lots of smaller prizes to play for ranging from €5 (euros) for 3 numbers matched to a minimum €2 million (euros) for the jackpot. So even if you don't win the lottery jackpot, you could still end up with one of the many smaller prizes!

The Irish Lottery is drawn on Irish TV every Wednesday and Saturday at 8pm live from the studios of RTE.
